QUOTE OF THE WEEK

And the night shall be filled with music
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents, like the Arabs,
And as silently steal away

With "SHOUT AND FEEL IT! routine...

and... introducing Ron Campbell and Giovanni Quintero!!!

RON CAMPBELL

Ron Campbell started swing dancing with his wife, Robin, in February of 1996. After a brief introduction to swing through a city Ballroom course (preparing for the "first dance" at their wedding later that year), Ron was hooked. He had found a means of expression for his joy for the music of 20s, 30s & 40s. Ron actually had to talk Robin into taking their first swing dance lessons. They never looked back.

Over the years, Ron has studied many forms and styles of swing dancing; East Coast, Lindy Hop (Savoy & Smooth), Balboa & Collegiate Shag to name a few. Ron and Robin have traveled regularly to study swing from the best instructors the world has to offer.

Ron's favorite part of swing dancing is the social scene. He and Robin are regulars at many local clubs and events. Ron also loves to perform. He was one of the founding members of the Swing Shift Rhythm Club that performs regularly for local hospitals and institutions. Ron has also performed at many community events and private parties.

Ron is a member of the Hollywood Hornets who recently won 1st Place in the Team Division of the 2002 National Jitterbug Championships. He and Robin also took 1st Place in the Preliminary Round of the 2002 Great Southwest Club Swing-Off at the Rhythm Club.

Ron will be teaching the Monday night Lindy By The Sea classes with Rusty starting on January 6th 2003. Welcome Ron!

GIOVANNI QUINTERO

Giovanni (or as most of his friends call him - Gio) started swing dancing in 1999. He first learned basic East Coast swing at the Derby from the free classes they provided.

From the time he started swing dancing, he was hooked to the point of going to the Derby seven nights a week. Gio was inspired especially by the great dancers that danced there. By trying to capture a move or two from their fancy footwork and by social dancing he was able to learn.

Giovanni was a part of "Roscoe's Rascals," a dance team that specialized in a variety of dances: East Coast Swing, Lindy-Hop, Salsa, Balboa, and Shag.

On December of 1999, he competed at the Hollywood Palladium where he took 1st place in their Amateur Jack and Jill division. He was a finalist with his wife Mae-Lae in the 2001 NJC Amateur Lindy division, and a finalist in the Jack and Jill amateur division at the 2002 Jitterbug Jam. Giovanni and Mae-Lae qualified for the Great Southwest Club Swing-Off at Suzy Q's by placing 3rd.

Giovanni has also been part of the crew of the Satin Ballroom taxi dancers.

Gio will be teaching the Sunday afternoon Lindy By The Sea classes with Rusty starting on January 5th 2003. Welcome Gio!

LAST CHANCE TO TAKE CLASSES WITH RUSTY & PETER!!
DON'T MISS IT!!

THIS MONTH'S FEATURED CLASS -- THE LINDY CHORUS
NEW CLASSES TO BEGIN ON NOVEMBER 24TH AND 25TH

Our last series of classes for the year (and the last series -- sob! -- with Rusty & Peter together before Peter's "retirement" from professional swing dancing) will begin on Sunday and Monday, November 24th and 25th and we hope to see you all with us!

THE FEATURED CLASS -- This month it is the classic "Lindy Chorus" class, which teaches a choreographed one-chorus long routine. This is a GREAT class for all dancers at all levels (well, Level 2 and up), since it gives everyone a chance to really focus on style and form in some basic moves, as well as giving a great sense of group accomplishment. This is NOT a "line-dance" like the Shim Sham, but rather a "partnered" routine (and we will be rotating as usual, so you do not need to have a partner!) This is always one of our most popular classes, so make plans to join us and take part in "The Lindy Chorus!"

*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
