QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Anyone who masters the dances takes on a certain confident feeling in time, after exercising great patience in practice. With this confidence, the happy pupil radiates a new magnetic personality...."

AND Save the date -- guest dj:

Don't miss next Wednesday night at the Rhythm Club as we present a special evening of music!!! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring in one of the swing world's best known and loved DJs, direct from Memories in Whittier, DJ Wolfman!! A legend in the Southern California swing scene for many years, DJ Wolfman was the house DJ for Memories in Anaheim for their Thursday, and Friday nights, as well as their legendary Late-Night Lindy on Saturday nights.

Wolfman is a great pal of ours and his style and taste in music have had a great influence on the music you hear played at any swing venue in Southern California. He has been a professional DJ for quite some time and his collection of music is extraordinary. Now, we have asked him to join us for a night and bring his trademarked style and sound to the Rhythm Club to sort of shake things up for the evening, and he has graciously consented!

You must come along and hear what this man has to play for us... terrifically danceable music that you've never heard before. REALLY, DON'T MISS THIS NIGHT!!! It will be one for the record books!

RUSTY AND PETER TO PERFORM AT MAXWELL'S AT THE ARGYLE
TONIGHT!! TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH!

Yes, indeed, you have a great opportunity to catch Rusty and Peter performing a rarely-seen act at the swankiest joint in Los Angeles -- Maxwell's At The Argyle! TONIGHT, Tuesday (not the usual Monday night, mind you...) Maxwell DeMille is opening his venue to help celebrate the 40th birthday of one of Southern California's most beloved swing scene icons: Mr. Dean Mora, leader of that unparalleled dance orchestra, Mora's Modern Rhythmists! Loads of local swing celebrities will be on hand to give performances and tributes to this great man of music, and Rusty and Peter will be among those present!

Rusty & Peter will be tap dancing!

Rusty and Peter will be performing a song-and-tap dance number to the Bill Elliott song, "Swing Fever" with none other than Mr. Bill Elliott himself providing the piano accompaniment! Rusty and Peter have only performed this number ONCE before, nearly two years ago, so this is a great chance to see them doing a fresh routine!!! Lively singing and great tap dancing from Rusty and Peter with the incredible Bill Elliott on the keys...what more could you ask for?
SO...mark your calendars now and set aside time to come down to the glorious Maxwell's At The Argyle on the beautiful Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California. It will be an evening to remember!!! For more info, click HERE

* * * * LINDY BY THE SEA CLASSES * * * *

NEW SERIES STARTS SEPTEMBER 29TH
INCLUDING....
LAST PERFORMANCE CLASS OF 2002!

Our new series of classes begin September 29th

So mark your calendars!

FEATURED CLASS -- SWING RUEDA! We are so excited to be offering this class again! The last time we did it, we had the BEST responses from the class we've ever had...lots of comments like "This is the most fun I've ever had in a swing class" were rampant!

So just what is a swing rueda you ask? Well, it's sort of like a square dance, but done in a circle, and all the passing from partner to partner is done with swing dance moves. If you were at the Rhythm Club last Wednesday, you saw a brief overview of the Rueda and a great demonstration, too. We just cannot tell you how much fun this dance is!!!

If you've never done the Swing Rueda, make sure to sign up for this class...and if you were in our Rueda classes last time around, you will want to come back again, because there have been some changes made that make it even MORE fun and lively!!! (You only have to be in our Level 2 class to join!)

PERFORMANCE CLASS -- "SHOUT AND FEEL IT!"! That's right, after taking a few months to catch our breath from working on the Big Apple in the last Performance Class, we're coming back with a terrific routine -- Shout and Feel It!!! This is an incredible, high-energy routine set to the Count Basie song of the same name from the soundtrack of the film "Swing Kids". It's been featured in the show "Swingin The Century -- The Big Band Show" with the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra, and always knocks out the crowd!!! So make sure to pre-register today for this great class and have a chance to work on professional quality material, polish your technique, spruce up your styling, and just plain have a ball! (By the way, the original choreography was by Sylvia Skylar and Rusty Frank, and will be adapted for this class.)

The Performance Class will be Level 3 and up, and runs for six-weeks. The dates are as follows: three weeks September 29th, October 6th, and 13th, then a one week break, then three more weeks, October 27th, November 3rd and 10th. And then we do a performance at our End-of-Series Party on November 17th and at the Rhythm Club on November 20th (performance optional).

*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
