LAST LINDY BY THE SEA CLASSES UNTIL THE FALL
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

HELP!!!! We need MORE people in our Level 1 Sunday class!!!!!! We had the lowest turnout of any of our classes, ever. Yikes! We don't believe it's because "swing is dead" -- rather, because of the 4th of July weekend, many people were out of town.

Can you help us find more beginners for this class? Or would you like to come through again, brush up your basics or learn "how the other side dances"? This would help us so much!

Remember, that it's fine to join our classes on week two, and that this is the last series until the Fall.

FEATURED CLASS: Everyone loved our recent Balboa series, so we are gonna carry on with some more wonderful Balboa as our Featured Class this month. YOU DON'T need to have been in the last series to join (if you don't know your basic Balboa, come to the 7:00 Balboa/Shag class on Monday on July 8th-- and you'll be fine). Come along and join the fun -- for MORE BALBOA.

If you have questions about class schedule, check our calendar by clicking HERE or call us at 310 606 5606.

ORPHEUM SHOW

Last Wednesday saw a fun-filled evening of music and entertainment at the historic Orpheum Theather in Los Angeles's historic Broadway district! The film for the evening was the classic silent comedy "Girl Shy" starring Harold Lloyd. BUT FIRST!!! There was laughter, gaiety and hot-cha-cha on the stage as our own Maxwell DeMille (aka Stanley Sheff) presented a terrific live show detailing the trials and tribulations of his impresario character as he attempts to cast acts for the show that night. One of his onstage office assistants was none other than our own Peter Flahiff! The very first act to audition was Miss Rusty Frank, looking particularly sharp in her white tie and tails, wowing the crowd with her great tap dancing! She recieved a huge ovation, but Mr. DeMille dismissed her from the stage saying that tap dancers are a dime a dozen these days. Rusty gave a rhythmic riff with her feet to show her dismay before storming from the stage. The show also featured Chandler Smith as "Snappy Tom" and Jerry Jordan as "Ramon Raquelo" (so good, he didn't even need a dance aprtner) of Retroglide Dance in Santa Clarita, as well as AnnaMarie Firley from ReVamp Vintage clothing, and even our friend Lovelynn Vanderhorst, as an eager dancer trying to get into the act!!!! And when the "show" finally went on, our own Kristi Clark and Amanda McCullough were two of DeMille's Dizzy Debs!!! It was truly a spectacular evening! If you've never been, make plans to check the next round of shows next year. (They are done every year in the month of June...)

SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB WANTS YOU!

It's been awhile since we shone the spotlight on the Swing Shift Rhythm Club, so we thought it was high time!!! For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, the SSRC is a volunteer group made up of students, dancers, and other friends of the Lindy By The Sea community who get together a few times a month to bring the joy and inspiration of swing music and dancing to elder care homes, childrens' hospitals and other such venues in the Southern California area. This group is coordinated by Mike Klug and Jessica Densmore, who do a terrific job putting together lively groups of dancers to help spread Lindy Hop around with smiles to spare! There are no requirements to join this group, just a willing heart. Dancing level is the last concern on the list -- we just want everyone to have a chance to be a part of this wonderful "club". If you are interested in joining up, check out our website FAQ for all the details, by clicking HERE

CONCERTS IN THE PARK -- The annual outdoor event, Concerts in the Park has returned to Manhattan Beach, and we are again lucky to have several opportunities to support and dance to live jazz! Coming up on THIS Sunday afternoon, July 14th, the Swing Kings will be bringing their trademark brand of hard-swigning music to the park. Make sure to come down and dance away in the gorgeous sunshine, but remember that the "dancefloor" is concrete! Rusty and Peter will be sprinting over after their last class finishes up at 5:30 to dance for the last half hour, so come and join them! And as if that weren't enough, Mora's Modern Rhythmists will be on hand with their incredible vintage swing sounds on Sunday, August 18th! You won't want to miss them -- they are simply one of the most talented bands anywhere. We are SO lucky to be able to hear them live at this location! *Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
