CARMEN "MISS SUZY Q" LYNN'S BIRTHDAY!!
WEDNESDAY, MAY 8TH 2002
Carmen Lynn strikes a lovely pose
Another Wednesday is fast approaching and that means it's time for another great night at the Rhythm Club! This week, we are proud to be able to help celebrate the birthday of one of the Southern California swing scene's biggest names...Carmen Lynne! Carmen runs the fabulous weekly swing night, Suzy Q's! This venue is one of the mainstays of the local swing scene and is always swinging like mad, every Friday night! Suzy Q's recently changed locations, from Westwood over to Santa Monica, and the opening night was spectacular! Come down to the Rhythm Club this week and help us give a HUGE and wonderful birthday dance to this great woman!
We are so excited about our new Tuesday night classes in El Segundo (did we happen to mention it starts tonight????)! This is the first time that we have offered our beginning/intermediate Lindy Hop classes during the week, so if you or anyone you know have not been able to take our classes because the Sunday time was inconvenient, THIS IS FOR YOU!!!
Remember, this new Tuesday night offering is our Level One and Level Two Lindy Hop, a great way to learn your basics in swing dancing, or to brush up on what you know, or learn the other role (men learning to follow, ladies learning to lead...) We are hoping for a great turnout for this new night! Come along and dance with us at this beautiful hall!

MAXWELL'S AT THE ARGYLE!
The Jitterbugs strike their finale pose. L-R Rusty & Peter, Lovelynn & Chandler, Tise & Nick
If you haven't been to Maxwell's At The Argyle yet, you are missing out on what is unquestionably one of the finest evenings of entertainment to be had ANYWHERE in Los Angeles. And last night, Monday May 6th, Maxwell's played host to quite a line-up of talent, with none other than the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra holding forth with their trademark brand of hard-swingin' sounds! Bill's Lucky Stars were on hand to lend the smooth vocal stylings we all love so much.
Rusty suits up in her white tie and tails and tap shoes
Then, at around ten o'clock, the floor show began, and leading off the entertainment was our own Rusty Frank! Rusty lit up the room with a spectacular Tap Dance solo to the classic song "Steppin' Out", and the crowd LOVED it! Taking her bows amid thuderous applause, Rusty retreated to change out of her suit of tails and into her costume for the next part of the entertainment...
The Jitterbugs stop to "gaze" at the crowd
...members of The Jitterbugs (Rusty & Peter, Lovelynn & Chander and Tise & Nick) came out and absolutely knocked the crowd out with two performances: "Shout & Feel It" and "Jeep Jockey Jump"! The performances were terrific and the audience went wild at the close of each number. So make sure to plan on spending an evening at Maxwell's At The Argyle, on the fabulous Sunset Strip! It's always and evening to remember!

BOOGIE BAERENS: It's hard to believe it, but next week, Rusty and Peter will be traveling to Germany to teach at one of the worlds most important swing seminars, Boogie-Baerens! This annual event brings together some of the finest instructors in the world for an incredible four days of classes, dances and FUN! Top-flight teachers of Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie and Tap Dancing assemble for this great seminar just outside of Munich, and the atmosphere is unbelievable! Rusty and Peter taught there last year and had a BALL. They are really looking forward to returning this year. Why not check out the official website and find out what the Boogie-Baerens seminar is all about?! (And remember, there will be no Lindy By The Sea Class May 19th and 20th.)
See you soon!
*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
