ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY OF
RUSTY & PETER'S RHYTHM CLUB

LIVE SWING BAND!
PRIZES!
DANCE DERBY!

It's hard to believe it, but we are about to celebrate ONE WHOLE YEAR at Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club!  That's right...last year at this time, we were getting ready to wind up an incredible THREE YEAR run with the wildly successful "Swing Night at 705".  As it turns out, it was almost TOO successful, and we literally outgrew the little 600 square-foot dance floor.  So we moved the party over to the Elk's Lodge in PLaya Del Rey (and upgraded to a 2,600 square foot dance floor...) and kept right on swingin'!  We have had such a great time at the new venue we can hardly stand it, and the time really has flown past!

Now, our one-year anniversary approaches, and we are THRILLED to announce that we will be having a huge party that night, featuring (for the first time at the Rhythm Club), LIVE MUSIC provided by Barry Anthony and the Swing of Things Orchestra!  This is the great swing dance band that plays every Saturday night at Long Beach's famed and very posh club, the Sky Room.  We are so excited to have this talented and very hard-swingin' band coming to play for our party!

Furthermore, we will be adding to the festivities with at Dance Derby and prizes!  The Dance Derby is a fun and very low-stress contest: the object is to dance with as many partners as possible in a limited amount of time!  We had a Dance Derby quite a while ago at an End-Of-Series Party (thanks to the creativity of our student Cheryll Lynn) and it was a huge success...we're expecting it to be again!!!!

So make your plans now to join us for our special One-Year Anniversary party at Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club, Wednesday, April 24th!!!

PERFORMANCE CLASS WOWED 'EM
AT SUZY Q'S LAST FRIDAY

The Performance Class really knocked the crowd out at Suzy Q's last Friday night.  The whole gang, decked out in their best and cutest pajamas, showed off their latest routine to the Tommy Dorsey version of the song, "Swingin' On Nothin'" and they were great!  From the first big chord of the song, to the last drum beats at the end, the whole group really gave it their all.  Needless to say, the crowd at Suzy Q's LOVED every minute of it, and gave the Performance Class a huge ovation at the end of the display.  Rusty and Peter warmed up the crowd beforehand with their two song-and-dance numbers which went over big as well.  But they were incredibly proud to see their Performance Class take to the floor with such style and panache!  Special thanks to Stanley Sheff, a.k.a. Maxwelle DeMille, for introducing all of the performances with his trademark wit, and to Carmen Lynne who hosts Suzy Q's, for giving the Performance Class a place to show off again...not to mention the fact that she was IN the class this time around!!!  Well done, everyone!

NEW PERFORMANCE CLASS TO BEGIN MAY 5TH
FRANKIE MANNING'S BIG APPLE!!!

MAY 5, 12, 26, JUNE 9, 16, 23 2002
PRICE:  $80 (That's $6.67 an hour!)
TIME:  7pm-9pm
no partner required this time!

By popular demand, we are offering Frankie Manning's Big Apple as our Performance Class this time around.  This is a high-energy, non-partnered routine originally created by legendary Lindy Hopper Frankie Manning in 1938.  The routine assembles dozens of classic Lindy Hop boogie steps and movements that will be a HUGE benefit to your dancing!  These are the movements that were a part of dancing in the 1930's and 40's and having a good knowledge of them will give you insight into your other swing dancing and help bring it up another level.

We have taught this routine many times before as a featured class or in a workshop, but have never been able to get through the whole choreography.  So now  we are offering it as a Performance Class, giving us SIX classes of two hours apiece.  So now we are certain to not only get through the whole thing, but also be able to focus on the detail and technique that this terrific dance deserves.  Make sure to plan on joining us for this incredible class...and at a mere $6.67 an hour, the Performance Class may just be the biggest bargain we offer!!!

THE LAXchange -- Those of you who have been Lindy Hopping for a little while now have probably heard talk about Lindy Exchanges...and if you are new to this dancing, you will certainly hear about these events from time to time.  So what IS a Lindy Exchange, anyhow?

Lindy Exchanges were concieved to be weekend get-togethers of Lindy Hoppers for sheer fun, socializing, and loads of dancing!  For many years, Lindy Hoppers would meet each other at dance camps and seminars and really enjoyed the cameraderie of it all.  A few years ago, some people decided that it would be fun to do the same thing, but not even have any classes scheduled, so the entire point would be to relax, have fun, and dance every chance possible!  The idea proved to be fertile, and since the first Lindy Exchange in Chicago three years ago or so, there have been literally dozens of Exchanges in just about every major metropolitan area of the U.S. you could name, as well as a couple of international exchanges!

Now the time has come for Los Angeles to host a great exchange, and we're proud to say that Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club is going to be a part of the fun!  You see, whereas most Lindy Exchanges are just over the weekend, Los Angeles has SO MUCH great dancing it has to last for a full week.  And the Rhythm Club is the Wednesday night venue for the Lindy Exchange!!!

Part of the fun of Exchanges is meeting new people and giving out-of-towners a great impression of the local area and dancers.  We know how terrific you all are in out swing community, so here's a wonderful opportunity to show the rest of the country (and world) just how darned friendly and fun we are!  The LAXchange needs friendly local dancers to host out-of-towners for the exchange, as well as volunteers to help co-ordinate transportation (carpools and the like) for the visitors during the exchange.  If you are interested in helping out in any way for the exchange, just drop a line to the official LAXchange e-mail address at dance@yourLAXchange.com.  We could use all the help we can get, because this is going to be one HUGE party!!!

The LAXchange has a really neat website, too!  To see this site, click HERE !

See you soon!

Rusty and Peter

*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
