COMES TO THE RHYTHM CLUB!!!
Rusty Frank, Leonard Reed, and Maxwell DeMille (aka Stanley Sheff)
On-stage at the Orpheum Theatre, Los Angeles, 1999
From the show "Dancing Extravaganza"
That's right! The man who invented the Shim Sham Shimmy dance 'way back in 1927, is coming to Rusty and Peter's Rhythm Club this week!! If you've ever thought of coming down to our club -- make this the week you do! Don't miss this opportunity to meet this living legend!
Leonard Reed, 94 years old, has been performing and producing in show business since the 1922, and he continues to be honored for all his accomplishments up to the present day! He produced shows at the Cotton Club, the Apollo Theatre, and for his own productions hired the likes of Duke Ellington and Lena Horne. We are thrilled to have this wonderful man joining us at our venue, and we hope that you ALL will come down for this incredible and rare opportunity to meet such a legend! If you would like to learn more about the life and career of Leonard Reed, we have added a special page on our website! It is the whole chapter on Leonard Reed from the wonderful book "TAP! The Greatest Tap Dance Stars and their Stories 1900-1955", written by our own Rusty Frank!!! Click on http://swingshiftontap.com/reed.htm
THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT...
This holiday season, why not give your loved ones something they've always wanted...swing! Whether it's a series card, good for four weeks of great dance classes with Rusty and Peter, or maybe some passes to the Rhythm Club on Wednesday nights, it's a gift that really fits all! You can even set up some private lessons with Rusty -- what a terrific present for the swing dancer in your life! Just email, call or personally ask for any of these things at any Rusty and Peter event, and we'll be more than happy to take care of you!
CALLING ALL GIRLS!!!
WE NEED YOU IN OUR MONDAY NIGHT CLASSES!!!
If you are a swing dancer of the female persuasion, WE NEED YOU! Our Monday night classes (Hollywood Basics, More Charleston Variations and Level Four) are badly girl-deficient. So we are posting this all-points-bulletin to all our students and friends to beg for more women to come take these classes! Maybe your Hollywood swing-out need some brushing up...? Perhaps you would like to learn a clever new charleston variation...? Or maybe you just haven't been around for a spell...? ANY EXCUSE you can find will be fine with us...we just want your smiling follow in class!!! Thanks!
RUSTY AND PETER'S RHYTHM CLUB
IN ADDITION TO LEONARD
REED'S SPECIAL APPEARANCE...
NATHAN EICK WILL DJ DISNEY MUSIC IN HONOR OF WALT'S 100TH B-DAY
7:30-8:00pm Beginner's East Coast Swing Lesson
8:00-11:30 Dance! Dance! Dance!
Come to the Rhythm Club this week and dance the night away again at one of the friendliest swing clubs in Southern California! This week, our "Opening DJ", Nathan Eick, who handles the musical chores from 8:00 until around 9:00 has decided to give us a special treat! As many of you know, Nathan is a big Disney fan, and as it happens, THIS WEDNESDAY is the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney's birth! So Nathan has put together a great set of Disney swing music to open the evening with to help celebrate the life of this great man! Also this week, holiday music comes to the Rhythm Club, as December has finally arrived! We have decided to buck the "Hallmark" trend of starting the holiday season shortly after Groundhog Day, and have opted instead for the more traditional timing of December 1st. So make sure to come to the Club and dance the night away to your favorite swing tunes, along with some seasonal swing, too!

SWANKY EVENT FOR RUSTY
AND PETER AT THE
Rusty and Peter had the delight of performing and teaching on Saturday at the luxurious Hotel Bel-Air! The occasion was a holiday party for the Budget Rent-A-Car Company, hosted by the two families who founded Budget! The Hotel was unbelievably beautiful, and the party was a ball -- a live band, a great crowd, and four numbers performed by Rusty and Peter!!! Everyone seemed to have a terrific time, and Rusty and Peter are looking forward to getting booked for more jobs at THAT location, you can be sure!
EL SEGUNDO MIDDLE SCHOOL
STUDENTS GET A CASE
OF SWING FEVER!
Over the last two weeks, Rusty and Peter have had the joy of teaching some choreography to the Show Choir class at El Segundo Middle School for their performance of the song "Jump, Jive an' Wail! The routines have been fairly advanced swing movement, but these amazing kids took to it like ducks to water. Only having forty-five minute sessions with each of two groups, Rusty and Peter had to work fast, but the kids had a lot of focus and really worked hard to get everything down, and you know what? They did GREAT! Lots of luck and good wishes to those young performers as they near the show time!!!
RUSTY MEETS WITH MAKERS OF A "HALO VIDEO"!!!
Last week, Rusty had a meeting with the head of the USC Neurological Center. Rusty approached USC to see if there was anything she could do to help other Halo patients(i.e. visit then while they are in the hospital and give them words of encouragement, etc.). But the Center came up with an even bigger idea. It seems that they are interested in producing a videotape for injured persons who need to wear a Halo. This tape would feature the doctor talking about the medical side (what is a Halo, how it works, etc.), and Rusty for her first-hand insight and expertise on the subject, and to show those who are in a Halo brace that there are many things that can be done to make the experience better for themselves. We all wish Rusty the best in working on this project, especially with such important subject matter. More updates will appear in these weekly e-mails as the project continues!!! If you are unfamiliar with Rusty's Halo experience, for details click: http://swingshiftontap.com/faqs.htm#23, for pictures: http://swingshiftontap.com/hospital/hospital.html)

*Wondering what the heck
a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry
Colona, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob
Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer
or swing music enthusiast).
