and all the top swing bands in the country really wanted

RUSTY AND PETER'S RHYTHM
THIS WEEK FEATURES A GREAT DISPLAY
BY THE PERFORMANCE CLASS!!!
START PLANNING NOW FOR
NEXT WEDNESDAY, OCT. 31ST!!!
The Rhythm Club swings out again this Wednesday night! This wonderful venue just keeps getting stronger and more fun with every passing week. Come on down and see why we're known as the friendliest swing club in Southern California! We have dancers who attend regularly, driving from as far south as Irvine and from as far north as Santa Barbara!!! They must be onto something!
Last week we had an amazing performance by Dogpile, that is Andrew, Dax, and Sabrina, doing their new routine for the ALHC (American Lindy Hop Championship). Everyone was just bowled over by their fun and creative number for the Cabaret Division. Wow! and thanks!
This Wednesday, October 24th, our first Performance Class will be giving a display of their rip-roaring routine. They've worked really, really hard and we're sure that they would love it if you came out to root them on. It might also inspire you to join the next Performance Class series starting on October 28th (see below for more info).
Then, next Wednesday, October 31st, it's Halloween!!! So start making your plans to join us that night, in costume!!! We're lucky to have the holiday fall directly on a dance night, so this will be our official Halloween Party for Lindy By The Sea this year! We can't wait to see what everyone comes as, this time around. Remember, we want everyone to dress up, but make sure your common sense prevails: if you wear a mask, be sure you can still see enough to dance well, and please make sure that your costume doesn't involve any accessories or other things that might poke your partner or others around you!
If you haven't been to Rusty and Peter's Rhythm Club yet, consider this your formal invitation to get down here and dance! Don't forget that there is a beginner's swing class, so if you have any friends who may have been hinting that they're interested in this swing stuff, bring them along! And then it's DANCING from 8:00pm until 11:30pm! And with 2,800 square feet of dance floor, great air conditioning, plenty of parking (!!) and incredibly swingin' tunes, how can you go wrong??? YOU CAN'T! Come dance with us Wednesday nights at Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club! (Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club is held at the Elks Lodge; 8025 Manchester in Playa Del Rey; beginner's swing class from 7:30 - 8:00, dancing from 8:00 until 11:30; ALL AGES; $6 cover; tons of parking in rear; for more information click http://www.swingshiftontap.com/rhythmclub.asp; for directions, click HERE or go to yellowpages.com and enter the Elks Lodge in Playa Del Rey!
NEW PERFORMANCE CLASS
SUNDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 28TH...
AND WE NEED A FEW GOOD LEADS!!!
Our first Performance Class has been a terrific success, with six weeks of great, high-energy choreography and technique! In particular, we need about four or so more good leads...there are just so many terrific followers who are wanting to take this class! If you are interested in this class, here are the details: The Performance Class is designed for people who want to take their dancing to the next level. In each series, we will work on a single choreographed Lindy Hop number. Because everything is set in the routine, it's not just an opportunity to learn moves, but a great chance to really concentrate on your styling and expression with a specific partner and in relationship to a group. If you have ever taken our Lindy Chorus class -- imagine that multiplied! In order to teach full routines and polish them well, each series will run in six-week blocks (taking a one-week break for the End-of-Series Party), and the classes will last from 7pm until 9pm. The classes will cost $80 for the full six weeks. Also, you must have a partner for this series (it only has to be a partner for this class, not a permanent dance partner... and if you don't have a partner, but wish to join the class, come to the Rhythm Club this Wednesday and snoop around, there just might be the perfect person for you. Also, we are keeping list of people wanting to take the class, but we can't guarantee anything, so it's really great if you can find your own partner.) Remember, you must be a Level Four dancer (or have equivalent experience) in order to participate in this exciting class! Email us if you are interested in joining this class and you can always pre-register online, just like any of our classes, at http://www.swingshiftontap.com/lbs-classes.asp ! Hope to see you there!!!
ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE A SPARE FREE-STANDING CABINET?
We are currently on the look-out for a good-sized free-standing cabinet to store supplies at the Neptunian Woman's Club. At the moment, our goods are piling up on the side of the stage and we'd like to take better care of our things, as well as keep the place looking neater. To that end, we need a cabinet. If you or anyone you know happens to have one they aren't using and are willing to part with, let us know! You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org ! Thanks!!!
Last Saturday night saw one of the most magnificent theatres in the country re-open its doors for a gala benefit evening of music, film and dance as the LA Conservancy hosted "Swinging at the Orpheum"! This was a fundraiser to help offset the costs of completely renovating this beautiful venue. The restoration is done and we have to say, the results are breathtaking!!! The evening was again touched by the excellent emceeing skills of Maxwell DeMille (aka our own pal and webmaster Stanley Sheff) and live music was provided by none other than Mora's Modern Rhythmists. A dozen or more of LA's finest dancers, including Rusty and Peter, were recruited to dance together on-stage as well as with guests! Celebrities including George Takei (Mr. Sulu of Star Trek, with whom Rusty got to dance...) and Diane Keaton (star of a great many Woody Allen films) were on hand to help celebrate this extraordinary night. All in all, it was a great thrill for all the dancers to be swinging out on the same stage that has played host to the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and just about every other great swing band that ever played Los Angeles! We were honored to be a part of this great event!!!
LETTER FROM POPS!
Pops holding onto his hat!
Imagine our delight when we received the following e-letter from our good pal Pops of the Swing Session. Thanks, Pops! You guys are just the greatest!!! And that's from all of us Lindy By The Sea dancers!!!
Hi You Two.
This is Pops here and I want to thank you for mentioning that fantastic party at The Satin Ballroom. We were thrilled at the turn out and support.
The Soundies (Girls) were true to form as usual and never better. Congrats' on having Hilary join the troupe. Where's a camera when I need one?
You are our reason to be playing this wonderful stuff. You're always there for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you sweet sweet people.
I hope we'll get to see you next month.
Love to you.
LINK OF THE WEEK!
Have a weekend coming up and some frequent flyer miles burning a hole in your pocket? Well we have just the thing for you...check out a lindy exchange! This concept began in Chicago nearly three years ago and what it boils down to is this: Three or four days. Dancing every night. Fun, non-swing activities during the day. Accommodations provided by big-hearted local dancers. That's basically it! No camps, no classes, no pressures, just lots of terrific social dancing with dancers from all across the country and around the world! There's a lindy exchange somewhere just about every weekend, and we have to say, they are an absolute ball!!! For more information about these great events, including a calendar that lists all the upcoming exchanges, complete with a link to those exchange's official websites, check out http://www.lindyexchange.com!
See you soon!
