Helping a Tap Legend

On November 22, legendary tap dancer Fayard Nicholas suffered a stroke that left him hospitalized in Burbank, California. Nicholas, who began performing with his brother Harold in the 1930s as the Nicholas Brothers, had already been experiencing some health problems that forced him to cut back on his public appearances. Following the stroke, friends in the dance community decided to join together to help Nicholas and his wife, Katherine, make ends meet.

Rusty Frank, dancer, choreographer and author of TAP! The Greatest Tap Dance Stars and Their Stories 1900–1955, has created the Fayard Nicholas Emergency Fund. In addition to accepting donations and gift cards from well-wishers, Frank is selling autographed photos of Nicholas, all of the proceeds of which will help the Nicholas family pay their bills both during the recovery period and beyond.
