YES, IT'S DEFINITELY TIME TO DANCE,
AND HERE'S HOW
I think we all need to get off that couch and start dancing again! So we're going to start with this Online Zoom Swivels & Switches Workshop, and then more to follow!
AND WE CAN BE INTERNATIONAL!
For the first time, Lindy By The Sea (my school) can be truly international! Join us, friends, from around the world!
THANKS TO ZOOM, WE CAN DO IT
We have been doing a few test runs with Zoom, the online program that lets you all be "together" on your screen, and it's truly a life-line for us dancers.
HOW TO JOIN THE WORKSHOP
1. Load Zoom onto your computer/phone/tablet, and get it up and running.
2. Pay for the workshop (see below).
3. Once you sign up you'll be sent the Zoom Workshop Link.
How to pay? Send $20
(and make sure we have your email address!):
- Venmo (Rusty-Frank-1), or
- Zelle (email@example.com), or
- Paypal "send to a friend" firstname.lastname@example.org, or
- Call Rusty to pay with a credit card (310) 606-5606
MAKE SURE WE HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!
Please include your email address when you register, as we will be sending you the Zoom workshop invitation via email.
"WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD THE WORKSHOP?"
If you can't afford the $20, just send what you can, even $0 is fine. I would love to have you join the workshop, and I don't want to have anyone stay away because of financial constraints. You don't need to explain anything to me, just send me an email saying you would like to join. Let's have fun together!
Now here's the scoop:
SWIVEL STYLING WORKSHOP!
We're going to go over everything you need to know to get more out of your swivels, including many different styles from past to present.
WHAT ABOUT THOSE SWITCHES??
Yep, we will spend a good chunk of time on Switches, including heaps of variations that will keep you busy for years.
"I'M A GUY, MAY I ATTEND?"
YES! YES! YES!
We had three guys at our last Swivel Styling workshop in addition to the twenty women.
As we know, Lindy Hop lead and follow roles are not gender specific, and these days it is quite popular for men to follow and ladies to lead.
So come along, fellows, and join the fun.
Do us a favor, just don't swivel better than us gals! (Only kidding!... Not really!)
WHAT TO WEAR?
1. Pair of flats
2. Pair of heels
Make sure they are suede or leather bottoms.
Definitely don't wear sticky soled shoes, like rubber. If you don't have suede or leather soled shoes, you can wear a pair of socks over your shoes; that'll work just fine.
Follows: twirly skirts, twirly dresses (As they said back in the day:
"WORK THAT SKIRT"); Leads: swooshy trousers
"WHAT IS ZOOM AND HOW DO I USE IT TO JOIN THE WORKSHOP?"
Zoom is a program that you can load on your computer for free. Just make sure to test it out before the workshop. Make sure your microphone and camera are on, and that you can see yourself head to toe. We'll see what you see. That way I can work on everyone's styling. If you need to, please test Zoom out with a friend to make sure everything is up and running before the workshop starts. Thanks!
If you don't have Zoom yet, here is the LINK.
"DANCING ALONE TOGETHER"
FOR HEALTH, EXERCISE, MENTAL HEALTH, HAPPINESS!
Lindy Hoppers in China dancing "alone-together" in February 2020
I can't believe it was just February 12, 2020, when my class sent an encouraging video to the Lindy Hoppers in China who were then "dancing alone together"... and now we are in the same situation all around the world.
Lindy By The Sea dancers sending love to Lindy Hoppers in China, February 12, 2020
We must all social distance. But this doesn't mean social isolate! I live alone, and I have to tell you that staying in touch with friends and family is making all the difference (and, of course, Buddy The Wonder Dog and Bigsie The Enormo are tremendous help!). So let's join together in our own abodes and dance!
